The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts introduced a ticket package for Word Festival. Each title included in the festival offers a different take on how we tell stories and who is telling those stories. This festival is for the culturally curious and adventurous. Kicking off the World Festival series of shows is And So We Walked: An Artist's Journey Along the Trail of Tears. This performance will be held in Fort Howard Hall on November 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., November 16 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The story is about a Cherokee woman and her father who went on a 900-mile journey along the “Trail of Tears."
Collaboration has never sounded better. UW-Green Bay Theatre and Music faculty join talents to masterfully blend spoken words and musical notes. Think Theatre: A Program of Monologues, this is a free event for the public to enjoy on February 11, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
Remixing a Shakespeare classic to a hip-hop performance, The Q Brothers present Othello: The Remix, February 14, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., is spun out and lyrically rewritten over original beats in this high-energy spin on Shakespeare's play, proving that the Bard himself was the original master of rhythm and rhyme.
Take part in an immersive experience seated on the Cofrin stage with (M)iyamoto is Black Enough. On February 20, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., the show is a combination of poems and complex musical compositions.
Although many are familiar with the traditional American musical theatre, fewer are acquainted with the emerging and alternative forms of storytelling in the American Theatre. With support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Midwest, and UntitledTown: Book and Author Festival, the Weidner Center is proud to curate a festival celebrating those many forms and voices.Word is a festival dedicated to Hip Hop Theatre, Spoken Word, and Storytelling.
