Weidner Center Presents A 'Season of Connection'

Broadway Princess Party.“This season features artist and titles that we know and love, as well as artists that connect us to the world beyond us. I hope that audiences will partake of both opportunities,” states Executive and Artistic Director Kelli Strickland. “The tunes of Patsy Cline, Carole King and Duke Ellington are comfortable and assuring like a warm blanket. It is equally powerful to enjoy and appreciate artists that shed light on something different from our experiences, like DeLanna Studi, the Q Brothers or the dancers of Nayarit.”

The establishment of the Weidner Philharmonic at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (announced in a separate release) builds upon the success of the Weidner Center's 25thAnniversary Concert and fulfills the promise of Cofrin Family Hall's celebrated acoustics. The orchestra will showcase the talented UW-Green Bay music faculty and their accomplished musician colleagues who work, play and live in the region.

The Weidner Center connection continues this season by moving audiences closer to artists with immersive onstage experiences. In two unique events, the Speakeasy On Stage and (M)iyamoto is Black Enough (MiBE), the Cofrin Family Hall stage will be transformed with audiences seated onstage with the artists. With big band music, bartenders mix up old fashioneds and the Green Bay Jazz Orchestra leads the hepcats to the dance floor - patrons will be a part of the transformation to the Speakeasy On Stage. Fresh from the Kennedy Center, (M)iyamoto is Black Enough (MiBE) will embed the audience on stage in a club atmosphere for this spoken word with original musical composition collaboration. MiBE will be part of a season-long Word Festival celebrating hip hop theatre, spoken word and storytelling. The Weidner Center is proud to continue connecting with artists by producing again this season, this time with co-producers Theo Ubique, for a three week run of Always…Patsy Cline in the intimate Fort Howard space.

This year we continue to build upon the popular UW-Green Bay Music “6:30 Concert Series” and introduce a new connection with the UW-Green Bay Theatre faculty for the “Think Theatre” series. These series are designed to connect the campus the community and will showcase the talents of our faculty and their collaborators.

Through our ongoing Creative Green Bay series, the Weidner Center is proud to present the best of our community's many performing arts organizations. We welcome to the Weidner stage perennial favorites, the Allouez Village Band, Doctors in Recital, the Dudley Birder Chorale, Birder Studio of Performing Arts and Northeastern Wisconsin Dance Organization. We are especially excited about our growing partnership with the Brown County Civic Music Association, celebrating their 92ndyear of presenting professional artists of national and international acclaim.
