International Film Series: Jazz Loft

In 1950s Manhattan, a dingy, five-story loft becomes the home and obsession of the photographer W. Eugene Smith, who wires the building for sound and for nearly a decade, captures daily life in thousands of pictures and endless hours of audio tape. Over those years, jazz players gather all night for freewheeling jam sessions; Thelonious Monk, Zoot Sims, Jimmy Giuffre all come by to rehearse which Smith stealthily documents.
